2025 Comics Curing Cancer Art Book

ree

I was approached a few months ago, maybe 6, about drawing up something for a non-profit book for kids going through cancer. The gentleman @dj_linx_2010 saw my art and live stream I think, and asked if I'd like to participate.

How could I say no to helping out an organization trying to encourage kids? I was and am very excited about all this. So each person got to choose who they wanted to draw. We had to stick to comic book or fandom-based art, but who would I choose? As all these amazing and talented artist who are part of this collaboration chose their characters. No one was choosing Iron-Man. Why? I would think that all kids, because of Marvel movies, would only want to see Iron Man and Hulk. So I snatched that name up!

I started with Victor Von Doom at the top. Robert Downey Jr. is playing this new ultimate villain, while also having played the ultimate hero. Unfair, absolutely, but we still love the guy. I wanted this to have that 4th-dimensional humor to it with Doom and Iron-Man contrasting each other.

I used a toy action figure of Dr. Doom as a reference. I did have a green screen cloth; I could have taken a more realistic photo of me dressed up, but this was easier and sufficient.

After years of inking drawings and bonding with the pen, I realized I get a high from the permanence of each mark. It's a relationship, I think, where I am trusting the ink, the pen, the idea to all come together with my energy. Scary. Thrilling. Done right, breathtaking.

The ink wasn't actually done, as I was running late on the deadline. Normal life of the artist, last-minute art pieces. The space in the back should have the inked version of the colored version down below. I did not draw those in as #Procreate had some amazing brushes for space stuff. This is what I will need to ink in at a later date.

For the coloring, I am no pro. I don't know what to do, really. I jumped on YouTube (a blessing from God) and figured out some professional techniques. I tried to stick to only two or three colors on each character. With Dr. Doom's metallic look, I replicated the Silver Surfer's look and design. I like this Alex Ross 1950s look.

In the end, I hope that the kids who turn the page to this drawing of mine, see not the skill I lack, but the hope and encouragement to take on any fear they have because we are all here together.

Cancer is scary, hard, and a wake-up that no one deserves or wants. I can't imagine why these kids have cancer or leukemia, but I want to use my skills and talents to bring life to these kiddos. Make sure to check out my blog more often as I will put a LINK to where you can get a copy of the book.

Thank you all and remember, if you are a creative, go create.
